"The School's Cool Developmental checklist makes you look at a child differently - it shows you where the childs strengths are and what needs work - you can't know a child better than through School's Cool."

School’s Cool promotes child success, parent involvement, and community partnerships!

In our country, one in four children enters school unable to take advantage of the educational opportunities school has to offer. They are lacking critical cognitive and language skills required to control emotions, cope with stress, cooperate, and learn reading, science and arithmetic. Studies show that for these children, the existing gap in skills just gets bigger and bigger, ultimately resulting in children who don’t reach their optimal potential and adults who cannot contribute to their fullest capacities.

It’s critical for communities to implement effective school readiness programs that will provide long term, sustainable benefits to children, families, and the community as a whole!

There are a lot of great reasons for choosing School’s Cool!

Philosophy

A fundamental tenet of School’s Cool is a focus on children’s strengths and abilities – making this pre-school program fit the child rather than expecting the child to fit the program. In addition to a strength-based approach, School’s Cool also promotes the importance of teacher enthusiasm and a focus on solutions.

Outcome-focused Curriculum

The School’s Cool curriculum is outcome-focused, providing instructors with a clear connection between specific play experiences and learning outcomes that will contribute to success in school. With appropriate school readiness learning outcomes built into the curriculum, children receive a rich compliment of educational opportunities geared towards achieving those specific outcomes. This comprehensive outcome-focused curriculum makes program planning, delivery, and evaluation easier.

Play-based

The 100+ activities that make up the School’s Cool curriculum, teach children in the way they learn best – through play. This play-based approach to learning facilitates an excitement for learning and helps children experience success.

Developmentally Appropriate

The School’s Cool curriculum offers four levels of differentiated instruction, helping to ensure that children ages 3 – 5 are receiving developmentally appropriate instruction. School’s Cool helps children learn pre-reading, writing, math and science skills, plus social and self-help skills at developmentally appropriate levels.

Parent Involvement

School’s Cool helps parents become involved in their children’s early learning experiences! Through a variety of strategies, School’s Cool helps even the most vulnerable parent become more comfortable, confident, and positive about their child’s entry to school.

Flexible & Inclusive

School’s Cool is easily integrated into existing early learning programs (e.g. kindergarten, family resource programs, recreation programs, child care, etc) and helps all children experience success, including children of diversity (cultural, ESL, Aboriginal, special needs).

Measurable Results

School’s Cool uses a unique tool, the Developmental Checklist© to observe, document and measure progress of individuals and the program. Having clearly defined learning outcomes and a proven tool by which to measure those outcomes, allows for objective evaluation results that can be shared with partners, and funders.

Quality Assurance

School’s Cool offers professional training, evaluation, and up-to-date information to help ensure program quality and success.
